Scent marketing for retailThe floor where people linger without knowing why.
On the shop floor the competition is not the store down the street but the screen in someone's hand.
What you do control is the time someone spends inside and the calm in which they make a choice.
Scent and music steer both, provided they point the same way. With a chain something else comes in: what works in the flagship has to work just as well in the branch with a third of the floor space and different staff.
Situations
The entrance and the first few metres
Whoever walks in decides within seconds whether to go further. A scent that fits the range lowers that threshold; a scent that does not belong stands out as an air freshener. We match the strength to the walking route rather than to the square metres.
The fitting room
The purchase is decided in the fitting room, and that is exactly where it often smells of nothing, or of the previous customer. A set of reed sticks at € 15 per month keeps that space in tune. It is the smallest intervention in a store with the most direct effect.
The showroom with hard surfaces
Cars, kitchens and interiors stand in large volumes of stone, glass and steel. Everything there sounds hard and smells of nothing. Scent and a calm music programme soften such a space without touching the interior.
From location to location
A brand that wants to say the same thing in every city needs one signature and its own execution per building. We charge per building, so you can roll out in whatever order suits you and start each location with a single machine. What is in the flagship can later be rolled out to the other buildings.
On the floor where choices are made. The scent belongs to the rail, not to the window next door.
Four layers, dosed per room.
A formula that fits the range
We read the brand and the building and make one formula from it. Not the scent that happens to be popular, but the one that belongs with your products and your customer. That formula is composed for your stores, not taken from a catalogue.
Dosing along the walking route
Machines on the floor and by the entrance, reed sticks in the fitting rooms and washrooms. We install the machines; your own team places the reed sticks itself with our short instructions. Your own team does the refilling, with the refills we send on time. During the site visit we walk the route with you and set the number and the strength at each point.
Music that moves with the week
A busy Saturday asks for a different tempo from a Tuesday morning. You choose our own instrumental recordings, made for your brand, or a list of existing repertoire that we compile and keep up to date.
Image for the floor and the window
A framed work from the same signature for behind the till, the fitting room corridor or the window. From € 250 one-off per work, framed and shipped, made to measure from small to large.
What it comes to each month.
A single shop floor starts with one machine: € 85 per month. Fitting rooms and washrooms join in with reed sticks at € 15 per set per month. One music programme for the floor is € 85 per month for new music and € 40 for existing music; if you want morning, afternoon and Saturday separately, that counts as three programmes. A location with one machine and one programme therefore comes to € 170 per month. With several locations each building counts on its own and we make one proposal with a price per location. There is no sum up front, the term is thirty-six months and all amounts exclude VAT.
Questions about scent marketing in retail
What does scent marketing for a store cost?
A single shop floor starts with one machine: € 85 per month, all-in. Fitting rooms and washrooms join in with reed sticks at € 15 per set per month. One music programme for the floor is € 85 per month for new music and € 40 for existing music. There is no sum up front, the term is thirty-six months and all amounts exclude VAT.
Does it work for a chain with several branches?
Yes. We make one signature for the brand and tune the set-up per building. Each branch counts on its own and you receive one proposal with a price per location, so you can roll out in the order you choose. You can start each branch with one machine.
Does a scent in the store increase sales?
We do not promise that. The broadest review, by Roschk and Hosseinpour in 2020, sets 64 experiments side by side: with a pleasant scent, spending in an average set-up was an estimated three per cent higher. That is an average, not a promise for your store. That is why we prefer to measure on your own floor: a measurement before the start and an evaluation afterwards.
How strong is the scent on the shop floor?
We set the strength to the customer route, not to the number of square metres. A scent that stands out as a scent is usually set too high, so we would rather set it too soft than too strong. After the first weeks we walk through the strength at each point with you.
Can the music in the store be included too?
Yes. You choose our own instrumental recordings made for your brand or a list of existing repertoire that we compile and keep up to date. Scent and music then come from the same signature. Research by Mattila and Wirtz from 2001 shows why that matters: when scent and music matched, visitors rated the store more positively.

Shall we come and look?
Compose your package per location on the site and see at once what it comes to per month. Would you rather first know what there is to gain on your floor? Then request an exploration. We come by, walk the route from the door to the till, and only then does a proposal follow.
