Signature scent for hotelsThe lobby a guest recognises before they see it.
In a hotel the stay is the memory.
The interior does its work in a single glance, but what a guest recalls months later is more often the scent in the corridor than the colour of the carpet.
At the same time a hotel is a building of zones that each ask for something different: a lobby running twelve hours a day, a spa that asks for quiet, and rooms where a guest is simply themselves. That is why the hotel's scent is set in each zone at the strength that suits it: clear in the lobby, soft in the rooms. If the spa calls for something else, we make a scent of its own for it.
Situations
Arrival
The first ten seconds past the revolving door set the tone. A tired guest registers the air before they see the desk. We set the lobby soft and steady, so that it registers without anyone naming it.
The corridor to the rooms
Corridors are the least designed part of a hotel and often the first thing to smell of something else: cleaning, carpet or the lift. One machine per floor holds that air on a single note. It is the cheapest gain in a hotel, and the guest notices it every time they step out of their room.
The room
In the room a machine is usually too much. A set of reed sticks at € 15 per month holds the signature in a space of up to roughly 80 cubic metres, ample for an ordinary hotel room. The guest carries that air away in their memory and recognises it at the next booking.
The rhythm of the day
Morning, afternoon and evening do not ask for the same music. With a programme per part of the day, the bar from six o'clock sounds different from the breakfast room at half past seven, in the same atmosphere and from the same signature. The lift, the function rooms and the spa can join in without the amount climbing per zone: from six programmes onwards the meter stops building-wide.
From the lobby to the room. One signature, dosed differently per room.
Four layers, dosed per room.
A signature for the building
We read the hotel on its surroundings, light, materials and story, and make one scent of your own from it, with a separate scent for a zone if you wish. That scent is composed for your building, not taken from a catalogue.
Diffusers matched to the size of the room
Machines in the lobby, the corridors and the function rooms; reed sticks in the rooms, the washrooms and the cloakroom. We install the machines; your own team places the reed sticks itself with our short instructions. Your own team does the refilling, with the refills we send on time. During the site visit we set the number and the dosing for each room.
Music per room and per part of the day
Our own instrumental recordings, made for your hotel and played on the installation already in place, with four playlists per programme for the four seasons. If you prefer existing repertoire, we compile the list and keep it up to date.
Art and language from the same signature
A framed work for the lobby or the corridor, and a poem that names the place, typeset or handwritten. We deliver it framed, from € 250 one-off per work.
What it comes to each month.
A boutique hotel usually starts with the lobby and one corridor: two machines, € 170 per month. Each additional floor is € 85. Rooms, washrooms and cloakrooms join in with reed sticks at € 15 per set per month. Music is added per programme: € 85 per month for new music and € 40 for existing music, capped building-wide at € 510 and € 240 respectively from six programmes onwards. There is no sum up front, the term is thirty-six months, and after that the diffusers are yours. All amounts exclude VAT.
Questions about a signature scent for your hotel
What does a signature scent for a hotel cost?
A machine with scent costs € 85 per month and a set of reed sticks € 15 per month. That is all-in: the bespoke scent, the diffuser, installation of the machines, the refills and ongoing care. A boutique hotel usually starts with the lobby and one corridor: two machines, € 170 per month. There is no sum up front, the term is thirty-six months and all amounts exclude VAT.
Does every zone of the hotel get its own scent?
It does not have to. We make one scent for the hotel and set it in each zone at the strength that suits it: clear in the lobby, soft in the rooms. If you want something different for the spa than for the lobby, that is possible too. You pay per diffuser, not per scent.
What goes in the hotel rooms?
In a room a machine is usually too much. A set of reed sticks works there, for spaces up to roughly 80 cubic metres. Your own team places them with our short instructions and refills them with the refills we send on time.
Is the scent safe for guests and staff?
Before a scent goes up in your building, we have the formula assessed for safe use in a space where people stay. If someone finds the scent too strong, the dosing goes down. That is a setting on the device, not a new formula.
How soon is the scent in place?
After the site visit the proposal usually reaches you within five working days. We then make two scent compositions that you smell in your own space. Count on a few weeks from the first conversation. If you have an opening as a deadline, tell us straight away.
More answers are in the frequently asked questions. What has been researched about scent and memory is on the evidence page. Also run shops or offices? See retail and showrooms and offices.
Shall we come and look?
Compose your package on the site and see at once what it comes to per month. Prefer a conversation first? Then request an exploration. We come by, walk the building from the entrance to the top corridor, and only then does a proposal follow. Nothing is fixed until you sign.
